Dr Thomas Block – Chief Executive Officer
Thomas has been in the not for profit community sector since 1999. Thomas has been CEO of MADEC from 2008 to present.
Thomas holds Certificate IV in Business (Governance), Master of Business Administration (Marketing), Doctor of Philosophy (Management Science) and Bachelor of Engineering (Industrial).
Thomas has held many local community based board positions over the years both in Victoria and Mackay including Riding for the Disabled Association, Community Inclusion Advisory Committee, Community Southwest, Break of Day Players and Steering Committee for International Day of Disability, Thomas currently on the Committee of Management of PCYC Mackay, City Safe, North Queensland Regional Disability Advisory Council, Health & Community Sevices Workforce Council Industry Reference Group, Mackay Regional Council Equitable Access Advisory Committee and the Mackay Rotary Club. Thomas is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, a Corporate Member Australian Institute of Management, a Founding Member Disability Professionals Victoria and a Founding Member Institute of Industrial Engineers.
In the Disability Sector in Victoria he won the Powercor Business Achievement Award for Community Enterprise, the Powercor Business Achievement Award for Manufacturing for five consecutive years and recently was a finalist for Professional Manager of the Year for the Australian Institute of Management in Mackay.
Dr Natasja Steenkamp is a Senior Lecturer in Accounting in the School of Business and Law at CQUniversity, Mackay campus. She has over 21 years tertiary teaching experience on undergraduate and postgraduate level, including MBA. Currently, she teaches Financial and Management Accounting courses at undergraduate and co-supervise PhD students. Natasja holds a PhD in Accounting, Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Commerce Honours, and Master of Commerce degree and Certificate in Tertiary Education. Natasja qualified as a Chartered Accountant. She has worked in a number of different capacities in the corporate world for 11 years, including PwC and KPMG Chartered Accountants. Natasja also had her own Chartered Accountant practice in South Africa for several years.
Heidi has a strong interest in social justice and public service. She has worked as an Environmental Compliance Officer with Mackay Regional Council for more than 7 years, after 22 years in a variety of roles in the meat industry. Heidi and her husband have lived in Mackay for nearly 20 years and share their home with a variety of pets since their daughter left Mackay to attend University in Brisbane.
Mark has been involved in the Mining Industry since 1997. Mark has been president of the Lone Fathers Association Mackay Branch for 8 years. The Lone Fathers Association is the largest Family Law reform in Australia Mark’s dedication and kindness has helped many men who do not have contact with their children.
Paul Waight – appointed in 2018
Paul has been involved in a range of industries in varying capacities over his working lifetime. Industries include

- Food retailing
- Higher education
- Production engineering in the automotive industry
Paul has held a number of supervisory and management positions as well as owning and operating his own businesses.

- Bachelor of Business with First Class Honours
- Bachelor of Science in Psychology
- Graduate Certificate in Higher Education
- Doctor of Philosophy for his thesis on the relationship between Adult Attachment Style and Entrepreneurial Orientation.
Paul recently retired from CQUniversity where he held the position of Senior Lecturer in Management and Organisational Behaviour and was Program Head for undergraduate business degrees in the School of Business and Law.
