If you’re somewhat active in the Mackay community, you may have come across John. Whether he’s hitting the weights, out for a beachside stroll, or at work, John is known for his boundless positivity and many friends.

His busy and independent lifestyle is supported by both MADEC and Endeavour Foundation, making sure that John gets the supported employment and community access supports he needs.

Twice a week, John works at Endeavour Foundation Business Solutions – Mackay, an Australian Disability Enterprise that offers a range of services including general assembly, document destruction, warehousing and general packaging. John’s favourite duty is gardening, with his team growing seasonal fruits and vegetables for use in lunches, along with general maintenance of the site’s garden beds.

Working with friends in an inclusive environment has been particularly empowering for John, and he has loved the opportunity to learn and develop his skills with plans to obtain certifications in the future.

To stay active in the community and meet his lifestyle goals, John also accesses Community Engagement supports through MADEC. He visits the PCYC gym twice a week to build his fitness, with his Support Workers assisting him with his program and helping count his reps. John’s infectious positivity makes him a much-loved regular at the gym, and his commitment to training has seen him make significant strides in his physical fitness.

After gym sessions, John loves to head out to local cafes for lunch and enjoy the natural scenery that Mackay has to offer. He also enjoys attending social nights with the Special Needs and Group Support (SNAGS) group where he joins friends, NDIS providers and his Support Workers for a session of karaoke.

When asked about his future goals, John says he’d love to do more gardening and continue working on his physical fitness at the gym. We’re proud to be partners in John’s independence with Endeavour and look forward to supporting him in achieving these goals into the future!
