It takes a diverse group of people to provide the many types of disability and youth supports we offer at MADEC. In this series we chat with our staff about their roles and spotlight some of the friendly faces in our team! For our first instalment, we had a chat with our Service Support Officers Daniel, Ashli and Donna.
From reception to organising maintenance of our many homes and fleet of vehicles, there is never a dull day for MADEC’s Administration Team. As part of their roles, Melanie Appleby, Stacey Kennedy and Leah Meads are responsible for a range of tasks that make the lives of our participants and Support Workers as easy as possible. They’re also the first faces you will most likely meet at MADEC!
What is your role at MADEC?
Melanie: I am an Administration Officer with my main focus on MADEC Fleet. I book all the servicing and repairs of the vehicles and action any fleet maintenance requests.
Stacey: My role is Administration Officer/Receptionist – it consists of answering all phone enquiries and connecting staff and participants to the correct people/coordinators. I get to meet and greet all the lovely faces who come through the office and I help other staff with any extracurricular items they may need help with, as well as general admin duties throughout the office.
Leah: Administration Officer – my role consists of general administration duties with a large part of that consisting of looking after the maintenance for all the houses. I joined the MADEC team 9 months ago and it is one of the best decisions I have made.
What do you love most about your role?
Melanie: I love the variety; no two days are the same. I could be doing data entry, running fleet to servicing, preparing meeting rooms, answering phones, doing work health and safety assessments, providing IT support and helping with house maintenance (to name a few) all in one day.
Stacey: The thing I love most about my job is chatting with all of the participants and support workers/staff that come in to say hi and hang out because they love coming here. I love seeing them happy and hearing all about what is going on.
Leah: Helping. Although I am not directly involved with the participants it is all about them, and everyone plays their part to help.
Let’s settle the debate once and for all… what’s the best chocolate bar?
Melanie: Top of the head answer: Snickers.
Stacey: I can not really have any! I am very lactose intolerant and get super sick if I have dairy, so it is very hard with an office full of staff that have jar after jar of chocolates, ha ha!
Leah: Cadbury Hazelnut!
