The MADEC WAY (Working Active Youth)

The MADEC WAY strategy promotes the true definition of the word ""work – exertion to produce or accomplish something; productive activity; and deed of performance. MADEC specialises in youth services and recognises the needs of the individual job-seeker to better match them to a position that will keep them motivated and on target for their pathway in life.

MADEC is an executive member of the Mackay Youth Connections and as such has forged strong network links with various youth support organisations, which are accessed to provide additional support to students with regard to their own personal development and assistance with life skills issues.

The MADEC staff can assist participant in the various youth programs in identifying strengths and weaknesses, developing career and learning plans which include strategies to assist in meeting individual goals.

Sample Training Program

Funded Programs

The following projects are all funded by the Department of Employment and Training.

2004 Back to Learning

This project is an initiative under the Education Training Reforms for the Future. A training program was developed to include units from the Business Services and Work Readiness training packages. The course was open to young adults between the ages of 15 and 17 years old who have left school and currently unemployed.

Community Responsive Training Program

This training program was in response to a local need for young adults who are unemployed between the ages of 15 and 25. Participants on this program undertook a mixture of units to assist them find employment and prepare them for work.

Youth Access Program

This program, referred to as YAP has been offered throughout 2004 to Mercy College, Holy Spirit College, Mirani State High School and Moranbah State High School. Participants on the program were aged 14 to 15 years old and have been identified in consultation with the schools, as being disengaged from the school environment and at risk of leaving school. Objectives of the program include increasing motivation at school, undertake vocational training or finding employment in traineeships or apprenticeships.
