All funded services must meet DS (Disability Services) eligibility. An interview must be arranged before commencement of service provision and all necessary documentation must be completed.
MAKO (MADEC Accessible Knowledge Options)
The MAKO program provides learning opportunities to individuals with a disability aged between 18-65 years in the Mackay region, assisting these individuals to lead quality lives. These needs could be for support in one or more of the following areas:
- pre-vocational activities and skills development in an adult education setting
- community access and recreational/leisure activities
John E. Smith Respite Home
This service was named after John E. Smith, a local identity who became one of Australia's leading mouth and foot artists due to his own personal perseverance and fortitude. John's life was an inspiration to everyone.
The Respite Service is for people with a disability under the age of 25, and can be provided in home, out of home or flexible community support. This service can provide for up to 5 days, overnight and short term respite for a few hours can also be provided.
NSO (Non School Organisations)
The Commonwealth Targeted Program (formerly Commonwealth Special Education Program - CSEP) is funded through Non School Organisations Commonwealth Special Education. MADEC has formed partnerships with Education Queensland, Catholic Education and Independent schools in the region to develop a unique program that delivers intersystemic therapy services.
MADEC employs therapists to assist schools to provide services to students with special needs.
The program provides therapy services to assist school age students with severe disabilities who are located in the Mackay and district at State, Catholic and independent schools thereby improving education outcomes using individual, inclusive practices.
NAC Service
The NAC (Night-time Attendant Care) Service is a night-time care service targeting people with a disability under the age of 65. The service runs from 8pm till late, seven days a week. The service enables clients to make bookings for night-time attendant care as well as the ability to respond to call outs during night time hours.
