MADEC Disability Services

The Commonwealth Targeted Program (formerly Commonwealth Special Education Program - CSEP) is funded through Non Government Organisation Commonwealth Targeted Program. Funds are accessed by incorporated bodies which have a constitution to provide educational support and services, including therapy, to support educational outcomes for students during their school years. MADEC has formed partnerships with Education Queensland, Catholic Diocesan Education Office and Independent schools in Mackay to develop a unique program that delivers therapy services. MADEC receives funding to provide occupational therapy and physiotherapy and speech/language pathology services to students with special needs in Mackay and district at State, Catholic and Independent schools.. Students need to be identified by their schools as being eligible to receive this service. Since 1994.MADEC has been delivering this service to the Mackay and district school communities.

Objectives

Objective 1:

To provide therapy support to identified students as prioritised

Objective 2:

To provide support and strategies to develop and implement the educational outcomes of students as identified in Individual Educational Plans (IEP)

Objective 3:

To provide opportunities and support in the educational setting to enable inclusive education for identified students

Objective 4:

To actively promote an inter-systemic and inter disciplinary approach to therapeutic services

Objective 5:

To communicate with stakeholders in a timely, efficient, confidential and profession manner

Objective 6:

To provide stakeholders with educational opportunities that they may enhance educational outcomes for identified students

 

The therapy team collaborates with teachers, parents and students in the development and implementation of Individual Educational Plans (IEP) using an inclusive model. They provide programs, resources and equipment to enhance the student’s access to and participation in the curriculum, the achievement of curriculum outcomes and participation in the life of the school.

MADEC has an array of specialised equipment that is used in the program. The number of resources continues to expand and includes therapy equipment, information technology, games and toys.
